The ambits where the BERRITRANS project will have an impact are:
- System and application interoperability.
- Driving of system and application standardization.
- Co-operative communications based on cordless technologies.
- Development of new: operation, exploitation, maintenance and safety services offering added value in relation to current services, which configure a new Control Centre concept.
Without losing sight of the basic global aim of the BERRITRANS project, enlarged upon in the project description, this could be broken down into a series of secondary aims reflected in both activities carried out during the project and in their products and results. Said secondary aims could be described as:
- Improving services applying advances in co-operative communications.
- Universal integration of systems from different suppliers.
- Reduce: time to market; and design and development costs in new equipment and services.
STRATEGIC TARGETS
The main strategic targets for the railway sector on which the BERRITRANS project will have an impact are:
- Facilitate sector liberalization solving interoperability problems among the different agents (agent, operator and maintainer).
- Harmonize co-existence of different technology suppliers and sector opening to new suppliers.
- Vote for co-modality.

TECHNOLOGICAL TARGETS
- Railway operation management systems: control, supervision and monitorization.
- Exploitation management system.
- Maintenance management systems.
- Intelligent video-vigilance systems.
- Communications architecture.
- Framework of BERRITRANS interoperable services.
- Framework of BERRITRANS Validation, Verification and Certification (V&V&V).
SOCIOECONOMIC TARGETS
- Improve quality of public passenger transport thanks to the creation of new added value services.
- Reduce traffic saturation on roads thanks to railway revitalization.
